Photo Friday

It was exactly one year ago that Mark and I went to Savannah, Georgia. Even though we live in the deepest of the U.S. South, we don't have any of that southern ambiance. In fact we live so far south, that we came out the other end and it is more like New Jersey. Anyway, in an effort to make it seem more like the old south, like 'Gone With the Wind', Mark and I snatched some Spanish Moss off of somebody's oak tree up in Savannah. Surprisingly it is flourishing, and we now have that old southern charm right here in lovely Wilton Manors.

  1. Spanish Moss is not parasitic, it can sometimes damage the host tree by over-shading the leaves, thus reducing photosynthesis, or by weighing down and breaking the branches. When I first moved to Florida, an old black man used to come to our neighborhood to pick our Valencia Oranges and remove the Spanish Moss from our trees.

  2. I'm not worried about the moss hurting the tree. We got the moss from trees that were hundreds of years old, it didn't seem to hurt them.

  3. ...and for Halloween the moss doubles as a hair wig which you can return to the tree once you're done.....

  4. Only Garet would suggest using the moss for a wig, sick thing. The moss looks great and very southern. That doesn't scare Mark, does it?

  7. How did you get the moss here? Didn't they check your baggage at the airport? You smuggler, you.
