The Puffy Floor Episode

Is there some law of nature that I'm not aware of? Could it be that for every moment that you think everything is just peachy keen, you must live another moment of frustration and exasperation?

Yesterday morning broke clear and beautiful, a cloudless blue sky with a bright and cheerful sun poking up over the horizon. Around seven in the morning when I get up to walk the dogs, the sun is streaming through the bathroom window and down the hallway floor into the living room. But yesterday morning I noticed something different. Something was wrong with the floor, the new laminate floor that I put down just last year. The laminate floor that I bought to replace the laminate floor that was ruined by a leaky water line. The new floor was puffing up at the seams exactly like the previous one had. The search was on, where was the damn water coming from this time? After a bit of searching I found that the central air conditioning evaporator coil was clogged, and water was dripping steadily onto the floor. So this means I have to spend money to clear out the evaporator coil, and I have to spend money to replace the flooring that was ruined. I'm considering doing one of those Kickstarter things to pay for it. That's where you beg for money from the public to fund your whacked out project. I'll have to come up with a catchy name and premise though. Maybe, "The Puffy Floor Project". I'll call it an art project where I create floors that look like a ship's deck, just like pirates used to walk on.

  2. Stop using laminate. It's a scurge.

  3. Oh, don't worry Patti. I've learned my lesson. This last floor was on sale and relatively cheap... like me.

  4. I'll pay towards a Kickstarter project, but only if Alicia installs the floor.

  5. If it was snap together laminate and you still have some, you can undo the floor to the bad spot, replace the damaged boards and put it back together. Annoying but cheaper than replacing the entire floor. If you don't have anymore of the same stuff, buy the same brand and steal good boards from inside a closet to use in the damaged area and put the off color ones in the closet.

  6. Anonymous, I do have a whole package left over for just this kind of event. But replacing boards in the middle of the room is a huge pain in the ass. Unless you would like to do it for me. I pay above minimum wage, but not much above.

  7. I'm about 1,300 miles too far from you, otherwise I'd get my kid to do it for you.
