Can't We All Just Get Along?

I've been having a bad week with the animals. It started with Carlotta kitty costing $450 at the vet, then Molly got sick and ran up another $260. There goes my George W. Bush stimulus check, that I haven't even received yet.

Last Thursday while I was at the vet with Molly something happened at home between Carlotta and Fat Kitty. Basically, Carlotta kicked the crap out of Fat Kitty, and when I got home Fat Kitty was hiding behind the sofa. When I picked her up, it was obvious that she had been bitten on the butt. I figured that she would recover and left her alone.

Move ahead to Sunday, Fat Kitty has been hiding behind the sofa for three days now and I decided that it was time for her to come out and get over her fears. As I reached back and grabbed Fat Kitty, something exploded spewing blood and pus all over. It was a large abscess on the base of her tail where Carlotta had bitten her. While Mark ran around the house screaming and wailing like an Arab woman at a funeral, I tried to calm Fat Kitty down. In the midst of all this commotion, Fat Kitty turned and bit down hard on my thumb, causing me to join in with Mark's screaming and wailing. It's nice that we can handle such things with cool level heads. Our next move after we calmed down was to try and get some antibiotics (Left over from Carlotta) into her. So Mark put on his thickest pair of oven mittens and held Fat Kitty while I squirted the medicine in her mouth.

Fat Kitty has been in the hospital since Monday morning and the doctor says she is doing quite well. The antibiotics I started helped her a lot. Now if I could get that promised stimulus check from George W. Bush , I'd be happy. Oh yes, and if my thumb would stop throbbing, that would help too.

  1. When you guys leave the home, you need to keep the cats in separate rooms from now on. It might also help to get some Feliway spray to help calm them both down. go to:

Read about how it can help at:

  2. Pet insurance.... Trish recommends it highly. She has it even though she works as a vet tech at a clinic and can treat her animals for very little. You never know. My friend Stephen adopted a stray kitten who after 6 years and a multitude of health problems cost him $6000.00.

  3. Jeez! Sounds like you have been through a really rough time. I hope Fat Kitty will be OK. Are you going to try to keep them both in the house still?

  4. Yes Russell, I can't put Fat Kitty out in the heat again. Maybe a muzzle for Carlotta.

  5. Alan, you need to get yourself on ATB's!! Cats are the worst when it comes to causing infections-even worse than dog bites. Don't wait until your thumb is the size of your head!
